Mt Dora Art Car Festival August 17 - 19 2007, Mt Dora Fl.

Join the fun this August at the wildest car show in Central Florida! Plan to spend the weekend enjoying the parade, the exhibits, the road rally and the all out fun!
Just north of Orlando and easy access from anywhere is the wonderful town of Mount Dora. Situated on the eastern banks of Lake Dora you'll find that small town charm and relaxing atmosphere that keeps people coming back for more!

The Stinkbug was on a whirlwind tour of Art Car Shows in May 2007. (updates in red )

First stop the Eureka Springs 2nd Annual Art Car Weekend May 4-6. This is the first time for the Stinkbug and looking forward to a great time.
Well it was a great event and the Stinkbug won 2nd place art car!!!

Next on the tour she goes back to Houston Texas where in 2000 in her first major event she took 2nd place art car. A great accomplishment among a field of over 200 other excellent art cars. This is the 20th year for the Art Car Parade in Houston Texas, the biggest art car event in the US. Parade and events start May 12th.
The ball on Friday night was hit by a major rain and hail storm, but everyone still had fun. The bug got soaked and was still drying out for Saturdays events. Believe it or not the Stinkbug out did herself. Along with 2 other cars she won 1st place art car. I'm still in owe!

It's on to Tulsa after a brief stop in Dallas for some car repairs.
Last stop on the tour is in Tulsa Oklahoma for the Tulsa Art Car Weekend May 17-20. This is a first also for the Stinkbug. The art car weekend is put on by Living Arts an organization who's goal is to create new alliances between the scientific, technical, and artistic communities.

Looks like it will be a great tour, 3 weekends, 3 weeks, 3 thousand miles. If you can, come see one of the events, if not come back and look at the pictures.

Houston 20th Annual Art Car Weekend

More than 70 art cars will visit more than 30,000 people who otherwise may not be able to experience the parade, stopping at children's hospitals, schools and community centers. Departs from the Houston Zoo.

6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. - Shop Talk
Art Car film footage from unexpected sources and presentations from Art Car Luminaries.

Saturday, May 12;
1:00 p.m. until ? - 20th Annual Houston Art Car Parade
Parade starts at Taft, heads toward downtown on Allen Parkway, loops around the Heritage Society at Bagby and comes back the other way. Parking in downtown lots and wherever you can find it. View 250 embellished, augmented and jaw-dropping vehicles in the world's largest and oldest Art Car Parade!

Sunday, May 13;
11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Art Car Awards Ceremony at the Orange Show Monument
Cash prizes totaling $10,000 are awarded in a dozen categories at the Orange Show. Art Car artistists, neighbors, adventure seekers, and families gather for a fun and festive block party.

Come welcome some of the ArtCar Makers as they roll into T-Town and catch the first sight of some of their amazing works!!!

Friday, May 18;
9:00 a.m.-12:00 a.m. - ArtCars Go to Schools
Living Arts will lead 2 or 3 groups of ArtCars to several schools in the Tulsa area to show the students these amazing ArtCars.
1:00 p.m. - ArtCars Lunch at Mayfest;
Somewhere around Mayfest you might just see the ArtCar Makers having lunch around their ArtCars.
7:15 p.m. - ArtCar Drive-In;
The ArtCars will be traveling to The Admiral Twin Drive-In to show off their ArtCars before and during the 1st feature of the night – and then stay for the Intermission ArtCar Feature – Erik Kolflat’s Documentary Film “Another Day at the Houston ArtCar Parade”.
Saturday, May 19;

Next, the ArtCars will make several stops along the following route:

1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. - ArtCars at the Blue Dome Festival;
All the ArtCars will be pulling into the Blue Dome Festival right in front of the Blue Dome itself around 1:00pm – so come down and see them then!
2:30 p.m. - Art BoxCar Parade;
Watch as students from several Tulsa area schools show off their own ArtCars – made out of boxes!
9:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. - The ArtCar Thang;
Party with the ArtCars at the ArtCar Thang, at the Road House behind the Blue Dome Diner.
4 great bands: Milk Truck, Sam & The Styleies, Tribe of Souls, and Giraffe plus featuring a special appearance by the performance artist Max Rada DaDa.
